jasmine propagated by cutting march. The cuttings should be atleast 20-25 cm.

Jasmine starts flowering in the second year fromplanting. The flowering period range between April and May and fromAugust to November.Plucking of flower is done preferably inthe morning as flowers contain maximum aroma at that time .about 30to 40 person/ha/day are required for plucking theflower.

 

EXTRACTION/DISTILLATION.

Sai Export India solvent extraction  method iscommonly used for the production of jasmine concrete.In thisprocess, non-polar organic solvent preferably n-hexane isused.Flowers are dipped in a solvent extraction unit together withn-hexane.The hexane enriched with volatile fragrant compounds isled to vacuum distillation for removal of solvant.Jasmine fragrantcompounds as well as undesired plant waxes get extracted in thisprocedure.

The waxes present in the concrete (about 50%) makesthis  product for limited use in perfumery Industry and henceundesirable in the form concrete. So the concrete is treated 4-5times with high grade absolute alcohol and refluxed at540C .The alcoholic solution is cooled from -25 to -30to precipitate the undesired soluble waxes which are filterd off.The wax free solution is concentrated by distilling out the alcoholat 350C at 20 mm/hg pressure. The end product issemi-viscous brown coloured liquid known as absolute or otto ofjasmine. The total yield of concrete is about 10-12kg/ha/year.

Uses ofJasmine --

Similar to tuberose, absolute of jasmine is alsomade .Attar of Jasmine sambac (Bela) is made not of Jasminegrandiflorua(Chameli). The odor is warm, sweet, fatty floral withslighty herbaceous with fruity undertone.

Regarding used one can cite the old saying '' No perfumewithout Jasmine'' .The jasmine-rose complex forms the moreimportant part of numerous ''grand perfumes'' as well as quiteordinary perfumes and bases. Nearly in 80% cases of floral note isimported by jasmine, though in small amount. Hence, looking intocost/impact ratio jasmine absolute does not appear to be anexpensive fragrant raw material.

Jasmine concrete is used in soap fragrance where itseffect can be perceived in low dosages.

Hence , it is used sometime in medium-to premium soapfragrance.When used properly absolute helps in rounding off,chemical notes giving naturalness and a warm floral undertone.Inchypre bases this is used a lot.

Also used in flavours due ti its warm floraltaste.Occasionally used in liquors and pastries.In baked goods& ice creams flavour it is utilized as well.

In aromatherapy its action is mild analgesic,anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic andsedative.

It is used for dry, sensitive and irritate skin. Goodfor muscular spasm and sprains.

Useful in depression, nervous exhaustion andstress.

Jasmine oil is used for perfuming expensive soap andcosmetics, mouth washes and dentifrices, bath salt, sachets andtobacco.

it is also usedin incense and fumigants.Alcoholicwashings of concrete are used in handkerchiefperfumes.
